Walking by Faith 8/17/14
Pastor Jerome
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day. And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day. And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. (Genesis 1:1-31 KJV)
What does it mean to walk by faith?
It is difficult for rich people to walk by faith because they have everything. How do you walk by faith when you have everything?
It is in the heart of God that His people walk by faith. Genesis 1 is a picture of walking by faith. On days 1-5 he creates much. On day 6 He creates Man. When man shows up on day 6, he cannot explain or understand how the first five days took place. Adam did not see God create on the first five days. God was training Adam a lifestyle of faith from the very beginning.
The atheist continues to look back at what God created and is unable to look at it by eyes of faith. The story would be different if Adam was created first and watched God create the rest of creation: he would have perfect understanding of how God is working. Man came upon earth on day 6 which means that God predestined man to walk in faith. Faith requires you to operate outside of perfect understanding. From the beginning, faith pleased God. Faith requires that you don't see everything.
Five key faith lessons to be learned from Genesis:
1. Everything you need for life was already here before you appeared
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: (2 Peter 1:3 KJV)
When Adam showed up on day 6, everything that he needed for life was already there. Walking by faith requires you to understand that whatever you need is already there. God didn't provide what Adam needs after he was created but before.
For you to show up on earth, you didn't ask for a mother or father from God. In the same way your provision is already there before you ask.
2. The Lord may not explain your yesterdays to you
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians5:17 KJV)
If I was Adam, when I showed up on day 6, I would have asked God what day it was and what happened on days 1-5. Adam had a past that God wasn't explaining to him. God wanted Adam to focus on the future.
Walking by faith requires you to focus on your future instead of asking for explanations about your past.
3. The true outworking of faith is rest
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? (Matthew 6:25-30 KJV)
Adam was created on day 6, the next day was a day of rest. Walking by faith requires the person to see the next day as a day of rest. You must look at tomorrow as a day of rest, not a day of war or worry. There were kings in the OT who didn't have a single war for years and had rest. If God gave that to those in the OT, how much more to us?
A person of little faith worries. A person of faith rests. Adam didn't pray or fast to receive everything he needed, it was already there.
In the new covenant, Sabbath is a lifestyle, not just a day. Each day is a day of rest, free of burden and worry.
4. Your wealth is not far from you
When God planted Adam, he was very specific about where he planted him.
And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. (Genesis 2:8 KJV)
God chose a locality for Adam to be planted in. Note that it was not garden of Eden, it was a garden IN Eden. God chose a specific locality IN Eden to place Adam. In the same way, God has chosen a specific place for you.
Prosperity is not in migration. It is in location. There is a location, a church, a place where God has chosen to prosper you.
What kind of place did God place Adam in?
And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: (Genesis 2:9-11, 16 KJV)
God placed Adam in a flourishing place, near a river where there was gold. God didn't give gold to Adam's hand but placed Adam where there is gold. Your wealth is not far from you. Adam was placed right where there was gold.
You may not have everything you need in your hand but God will place you in a locality where there is gold under your feet. You have to talk like a rich man, not like a poor man. You can have gold under your feet and still be poor, you need the anointing to receive it to your hand. Peter tried to catch fish with his skill- Skill cannot take you where the anointing can.
5. Faith without works is dead.
And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. (Genesis 2:15 KJV)
Walking by faith requires you to work. Humanity fell when the woman began to feed the man. You have got to really work.
Side note: What happened when Eve came into Adam's life?
When Eve came into Adam's life, he had to move from the realm of faith to the realms of love and knowledge. Adam was not required to deal with Eve with faith but with love and knowledge.
Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. (1 Peter 3:7 KJV)
